The website has three main aims:

  • To provide practical ideas for the hard pressed primary school teacher to enable children to engage in real “hands on” activities related to primary science
  • To advise on easily obtainable equipment to allow for practical  work for all children
  • To advise on ways to link all practical work to NC requirements using real situations in the immediate environment of the school
The philosophy advocated by  Confucius the Chinese philosopher of the 6th Century is foremost

I hear I forget
I see I remember
I do I understand

About Me

I started my teaching career in the early sixties as a secondary school science teacher. Later in the same decade I moved on to a primary school setting, rising in 1973 to the position of Deputy Head of a very large primary school.

In 1980 I appointed as Head Teacher of a purpose built, new area primary school in Mid Wales, following the closure of five small village schools, where I remained for 21 years, retiring in 2001.

A further career move in 2003 took me into Teacher Training as a Science Tutor for a Teaching Training Consortium remaining until 2013 when “Schools Direct”, a Government led initiative, took over the responsibility for Teacher Training in major areas of the country.

I have a special passion for primary science and over the years I have encouraged children, school staff and latterly trainee teachers to pursue science through real, relevant and practical situations.

In 2013 I was involved in an HM inspection with the following remarks made in the inspection report regarding my contribution to science.

“Centre based training is of a high quality. The content is extensive and there is a strong emphasis on practical training.

Trainees were given a wealth of resources and practical ideas that are applicable to the continuum across the Early Years Foundation and both Primary Stages.

Trainees express very high levels of satisfaction with this component of their training”
